Acknowledging the Land

In grade 3 we will be starting our geographic journey by focusing first, on the land we live on.
We watched a beautiful video to teach us more about the significance and purpose of the Land Acknowledgement shared at school. We then learned a very interesting story about how the Bow River got its name, please ask your child all about it!!! (hint: it has something to do with the Choke Cherry Trees that have grown along the river.)

See the video below and check out our Bow River sketches, and our very own Gr 3 Land Acknowledgment.

It's OKAY to be different!

We have been learning about how we are all unique! That we all have a unique and special story to tell!
Check out the students' self portraits showing our unique traits in a unique way. We were a little silly here and thought of special traits we could have, that would make us unique in some way. Some questions you might want to ask your child.....

What makes you unique?
What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses?
What do you wish you could become better at?
If you could have a unique trait what might it be and why might you choose it?

What is Our Story?

Throughout the year we will use this question as a lense through which we will explore the curriculum.

We have begun the journey by learning the stories of our names....

Home Reading

In grade 3 right now we are currently assessing your child's reading and writing. Students are starting to be grouped and read to on a daily basis. More formal literacy groups will commence once all assessments are complete.

Home reading expectations in grade 3 are 20-30 minutes each night. Students have learned how to read to self, how to read to someone and how to listen to reading. Reading at home can take on any one of these forms. Please encourage your child to make reading a part of their daily routine.

Happy reading, in cozy reading socks, this Calgary Autumn!

Welcome!
