Daily reading groups have been running now for about a month. Students will be read to twice a week and formal work will be done within these reading groups. All students have opportunity to read out loud throughout the day to each other, the whole group and myself or other adults. Reading strategies are taught throughout the day, not just during formal reading groups.
Please encourage your child to read out loud to you, your family or a sibling at least once a day! Make it fun; put on a play, sing a song, read to a sibling, play school, pretend to be a librarian! Just try to have fun with it!
Happy Reading!

In grade 3 right now we are currently assessing your child's reading and writing. Students are starting to be grouped and read to on a daily basis. More formal literacy groups will commence once all assessments are complete.
Home reading expectations in grade 3 are 20-30 minutes each night. Students have learned how to read to self, how to read to someone and how to listen to reading. Reading at home can take on any one of these forms. Please encourage your child to make reading a part of their daily routine.
Happy reading, in cozy reading socks, this Calgary Autumn!
