Earth Guardian Call to Action - Garbage Free School! THINK about what are waste is; compostable, recyclable, reusable or trash....and work to reduce ehat we use!

St.Rita's Earth Guardians have called us to ACTION! They are challenging us to reduce our waste by taking away our garbage cans!! Grade 3 students have been optimistic and Day 1 of the challenge went okay.

We are being forced to think about what waste goes where.....

We have a recycle bin, a compost bin and a rinse bin where we collect recyclables, rinse them and then either reuse them or recycle them.

Students made posters to help identify the bins. They were so excited and keen that they agreed to make posters for other classrooms too!

We are now collecting our trash in a 1L jar. We are going to see how long it takes us to fill this jar up with trash.

We saw a Ted-talk today about a girl who has managed to consume only a 1 L jar worth of waste over 3 years!!
